Gentle care begins with a strong foundation

Fundamentals introduces thoughtful preparation, awareness of patient cues, respectful communication, and the Prepare, Present, Protect method. Learn to invite the patient’s perspective, respond to changing needs, respect consent, and support safe, dignified continuity of care. The course is designed around approximately 4 instructional hours, followed by a 50-question final examination. A passing score of 90%, or 45 of 50, is required.

Who Fundamentals welcomes

Phlebotomists and phlebotomy students; MAs, CMAs, RMAs, and CCMAs; CNAs and patient care technicians; and other qualifying unlicensed or certified allied-health personnel whose work includes performing, preparing for, or supporting blood collection. These are distinct, generally lateral allied-health roles. Fundamentals is not restricted to the formal job title “phlebotomist.” Students in valid relevant education programs may enter Fundamentals. Student status alone does not qualify someone for Practitioner Certification or a supplemental credential.

Your learning, access, and credential

Narrated modules are being prepared with English audio and captions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Haitian Creole. The standard course access period is 15 days, with one optional 7-day extension for $100. Successful candidates receive a permanent Fundamentals ID Number with the GDF prefix. The number remains permanent; active standing follows Fundamentals maintenance and competency-review requirements. Annual maintenance is $60 beginning in Year 2. GDF and GDPC are distinct credentials, and one number never becomes the other.

A method of care within your existing scope

GentleDraw teaches a patient-centered method of care. It does not provide, replace, or supplement the clinical qualifications or legal authority required to perform a medical procedure. It does not expand, grant, or modify scope of practice. Work only within your existing authorized role, required supervision, organizational policies, and applicable jurisdictional rules for consent, safety, infection prevention, and clinical care. Student participation does not authorize independent patient care or replace required instruction and supervision.
